3 Tips To Ensure Your Blind Cat Enjoys Their Boarding Kennel Stay

Posted on: 15 November 2018

This time of year is busy as people rush around getting ready for the Christmas holidays. For those travelling away, it is also the time that boarding arrangements are made for pets. As someone who has a blind cat who has not been to a boarding kennel before, you are concerned about how to make sure your feline friend enjoys their time away from you and their home. Here are three things you can do to make sure your cat's stay at a boarding kennel is a pleasant one.

1. Choose A Boarding Kennel Which Caters For Special Needs

Boarding kennels are not created equal. Some are big, and some are small. When it comes to catering for a blind cat, the kennel needs to have a specific area separate to the main kennel which takes care of special needs animals. The reason for this is because your cat will be stressed when placed into this new environment, and being exposed to a large amount of animal noise is going to raise those stress levels. So, a quiet, calm area away from the daily fuss of the main living area is just what your kitty needs to remain chill and purring.

2. Take Their Litter Box To The Boarding Kennel

For a blind cat, it is important that as much normality as possible is maintained while they have their stay at the kennel. To maintain this continuity, take along the cat's litter box to the boarding kennel. Although kennels generally provide their own litter trays, these trays are not in a style that your cat is used to. By taking along their own litter box for use, the cat is reminded of a familiar smell that they experience at home.

3. Pay For Extra Attention

A blind cat does need extra attention because they will be confused when they first enter the boarding facility. Pay for extra time between the kennel attendants and your cat, so that your cat gets the emotional care it needs in your absence. Blind cats enjoy cuddles and being groomed, so these processes should continue as much as possible while your cat is boarding.

Your cat will be well cared for at any reputable boarding facility you choose. However, use these tips to make sure your cat's experience away from home is a positive and loving one so that you can turn your mind towards having a wonderful holiday with your family.
